St. Bernard Releases iPrism v3.4

Friday August 8, 2003
A short while ago I completed a product review of St. Bernard's iPrism Appliance v3.3. I found the appliance to work well for its intended purpose- filtering web access and content. The iPrism is a rack-mountable device that uses a "human-reviewed" database of web sites to block access to undesirable sites. Being "human-reviewed" means that porn sites can be blocked while not creating a "false positive" that would also block sites about breast cancer. It is a little cost-prohibitive for a home environment, but would work well in small to medium office environments to make sure employees stay focused on productivity rather than questionable web sites.

The new iPrism v3.4 includes several features that make it both easier to use and update, including better auto-login capabilities, a hotfix manager, and increased screen customization capabilities. Librarians across the country are already using iPrism to filter content on their Internet-enabled computers, a testimonial to the ease of use and success of iPrism in public libraries today. “Its ease of use and manageability has garnered positive reaction from both patrons and staff," said Stephen Hedges, director of the Athens County (OH) library system, which has been using iPrism across its seven branches for three years. For more information about the iPrism you can visit the St. Bernard software site here: iPrism - Internet Access Management.
