The Wait Is Over- Windows RPC Worm Spreading Quickly

Monday August 11, 2003
From the time that Microsoft released Security Bulletin MS03-026 on July 16 the network and security administrators around the world have sort of held their collective breath waiting for the worm to take advantage of this flaw. Code to exploit the vulnerability was posted shortly after to public security and vulnerability sites. The original code was not fully functional, but since it was released to the public domain it has been tweeked and reworked and is now spreading around the world as the MSBlast worm (aka Lovsan). Microsoft and security firms and gurus around the world have stressed the urgency and importance of applying the patch for this flaw. The vulnerability outlined in MS03-026 and being exploited by MSBlast is arguably one of the largest vulnerabilities ever for the Windows operating system. Be sure to apply the appropriate patch to your Windows computers and update your antivirus software as soon as possible to detect this new threat.
