U.S. Government Names New Cybersecurity Chief
Monday September 15, 2003
The position has been vacant for awhile, but today President Bush announced the appointment of Amit Yoran, Symantec executive and co-founder of security firm Riptech, as the new Cybersecurity Chief. In his new role, Mr. Yoran will be tasked with being "the government's evangelist for convincing Americans to improve their computer defenses against hackers, disgruntled employees, commercial rivals and foreign governments." Critics have charged that the position does not have enough power to be effective- its too far down on the organization chart at the Department of Homeland Security to get anything significant done.
