As Long As Its For "National Security"

After the infamous 9/11 terrorist attacks the United States government quickly passed the PATRIOT Act which effectively strips some of our basic rights as Americans in the name of fighting terrorism and defending national security. Unfortunately, the FBI is now using those provisions to violate the First Amendment rights of journalists and not only subpoena private notes and information on hacker Adrian Lamo but to also compelling the journalists to keep all of the details secret without actually having to obtain a court "gag order". While Mr. Lamo's actions were illegal and I have no issue with prosecuting hackers I do have an issue with abusing the provisions of the PATRIOT Act for prosecuting events that have nothing to do with terrorism or national security.
