Cisco Enters the SSL VPN Frenzy
Tuesday November 11, 2003
Virtual Private Networks (VPN's) based on SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) connections rather than IPSec have been gaining ground. There are pros and cons to each, but one of the biggest selling points for SSL VPN's is that SSL is native to most web browsers and doesn't require the end-user to install any client software. From a network administrative standpoint the SSL VPN has a lot less configuration headaches. I will be posting an article this week discussing in more detail the differences between IPSec and SSL VPN's and the pros and cons of each. You can read more about Cisco's foray into the SSL VPN market in this ZDNet.com article: SSL networking heats up.
