Homeland Security Agency Launches Mock Cyberattack
Wednesday November 26, 2003
In an effort to test the stability and interdependencies of the various critical infrastructure networks the Department of Homeland Security initiated a massive mock cyberattack in late October. These types of drills have been done in the past- you can read about them and some of the results and findings in Dan Verton's Black Ice: The Invisible Threat of Cyberterrorism. This exercise showed once again that there are some areas that need improvement and that the critical infrastructure might not stand up well to a massive strategic attack. Amit Yoran, the newly appointed chief of the National Cyber-Security Division said "The information flow between various sectors was not as smooth as we would perhaps have liked." You can read more about this exercise and the results in this CBSNews.com story: U.S. Launches Mock Cyberattack.
