Hacker? Cracker? Web Surfer With Malicious Intent? - What Shall We Call Them?

This comes up again periodically- this question of whether an unauthorized intruder who infiltrates your computer network is a "hacker". True hackers bristle at the "mis-use" of the term. So, what exactly should we call someone who attacks your computer system or network? What exactly is wrong with calling them "hackers"?
