Book Review: Network Security Assessment

Wednesday May 26, 2004
Chris McNab has written a great addition to the hacker technique and defense genre of books. Whereas books like Hacking Exposed, which defines this category of books and constantly sets the bar for other authors, provide a vast compendium of systems weaknesses and methods for exploiting them, Network Security Assessment looks at the information from a more systematic approach. This book provides not only the details for how to exploit various vulnerabilities, but it does so in a way designed to help you perform a security audit of your network in accordance with NSA IAM or CESG CHECK government standards. If you have read books like Counter Hack or Security Warrior, this book is an excellent complement to help you apply that knowledge in an actual penetration test or security auditing scenario.
