McAfee Releases Antivirus For Linux

Saturday May 29, 2004
There are very few malware threats that actually infect or affect a Unix or Linux machine. The vast majority of malware targets Windows systems- partially because they seem to be easier targets and partially because there are so many more of them to target. However, many companies use Unix and Linux machines as servers in a variety of capacities including as fileshare servers for Windows machines. Even though these Linux servers are not affected by malware, they can still harbor malware that can be passed from Windows computer to Windows computer as they download files from the Linux server. McAfee has released LinuxShield to help scan, detect and clean Linux servers and help protect your network.
