Beware What Goes On Behind Closed Doors

Friday October 1, 2004
Democracy is made stronger by open and honest debate about issues. Some elected officials seem to feel that they know what is best for this country without allowing for a debate or opposing points of view. Case in point- Senator Hatch has excluded major industry groups that oppose his INDUCE (or IICA) Act legislation from the closed-door discussions about it. There are also clandestine attempts to extend and expand the civil-liberty stripping PATRIOT Act in the face of diverse opposition and remorse on the part of many elected officials who voted to pass the act in the first place.
