Four minutes. That is all the time you have. In some cases you may only have 30 seconds, so relatively speaking 4 minutes is a long time. According to a TechWeb article, AvanteGarde teamed up with Kevin Mitnick, hacker-turned-security-expert and author of Art of Deception and Art of Intrusion, to conduct a test to determine how long it takes for an unprotected system with a live Internet connection to become compromised. The study highlights the importance of personal firewall software as well as why you should patch your machine using a CD or other resource before you connect it to the Internet.
