Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool

Wednesday January 12, 2005
In conjunction with their second Tuesday of the month release schedule for monthly Security Bulletins, Microsoft also released the inaugural version of their Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool. This tool is designed to detect and remove specific virus threats, similar to tools such as the Stinger utility from McAfee. Microsoft intends to update the tool monthly, releasing new versions each second Tuesday of the month when they release the monthly Security Bulletins. This tool does not replace running updated antivirus software on your computer. It will not protect you from getting infected. It can only be used to clean your computer up once it has become infected. For more information see this Microsoft site: Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool.
