Attack Of The Rootkits

Monday April 18, 2005
Rootkits have been around for a long while in the Unix world, but the Microsoft Windows operating systems have been more or less spared from these stealth attacks. I wrote an article over a year ago about the rise in interest in rootkits for attacking Windows systems and recently Microsoft acknowledged that the threat from rootkits is becoming one of the prevailing threats to Windows security. It appears that this 2005 may be the year that Windows rootkits really emerge, particularly in terms of their media coverage. For more about rootkits, see Rootkits: They're Not Just For *Nix Anymore
