U.S. House Passes Two Anti-Spyware Bills
Wednesday May 25, 2005
Congress has been busy this week trying to combat the threat of spyware to personal and corporate computer users. First, the House passed the SPY Act, by a 399-1 vote, followed the next day by unanimous passage of the I-SPY Act. Both of these bills come after road bumps derailed previous efforts (see Federal and State Governments Attempt To Legislate Against Spyware) and some industry experts still fear that these bills may be worded too "broadly" such that they might also apply to some legitimate monitoring techniques. Supporters hope to push the bills through the Senate before Congress breaks this Friday.
