The Rise Of The Super Worm

In the past year, malware has not shown any signs of slowing down. The Netsky / Bagle / MyDoom wars that began in early 2004 set new records for how many new variants of the same threat could be unleashed on the Internet in a given day or week. Still, even with the sheer quantity of threats, the severity or impact of the threats has not been as significant as past threats such as Nimda, CodeRed or SQL Slammer. According to a PC World article, researchers at antivirus firm Sophos feel that the recent Mytob worm variants are a cumulative effort leading to the creation of some sort of "super worm".
