Katrina Scams Proliferate

Wednesday September 21, 2005
With Hurricane Rita entering the Gulf of Mexico as a Category 4 hurricane with the potential to reach Category 5- with winds OVER 155 mph- before making landfall in Texas, or possibly the already devastated New Orleans area by this weekend, the world is still trying to recover from Hurrican Katrina. A week or so ago, I wrote an article called Beware Hurricane Katrina Scams which outlines some things to watch out for as malware and fraudsters try to take advantage of those trying to help. According to PC World Magazine, those Katrina scams are still proliferating. There is also a good chance that we'll start seeing some Rita-based spam, email hoaxes and phishing scams as well. For more details about the Katrina scams, you can read Katrina Scams Proliferate by Tom Spring.
