Secure Your Passwords

Monday October 24, 2005
Some users are overwhelmed by the sheer number of passwords they have to create and keep track of. Some require at least 8 characters while some have a maximum of 6. Some do not allow special characters such as '*' or '&' while others require such characters. Some may not allow you to change them while others must be changed at varying frequencies- weekly, monthly, etc. For a user with ten, twenty or maybe even 50 different passwords, remembering them can be quite daunting. That is why so many users have a piece of paper in their desk drawer or taped to their monitor. Well, Bruce Schneier, author of Beyond Fear, created a freeware program you can use to track and secure your password list. For more about Password Safe, see this Washington Post article: Bypassing The Password Prompt.
