Remove Hidden Data From Microsoft Office Files

Sunday July 30, 2006
When you create and modify files in Microsoft Office products, the changes, comments and other information are tracked and recorded in the background. When you send a document to another person, this hidden data can be revealed. If you were nasty or sarcastic, but then edited the document, your original nasty, sarcastic comments are still there. If you remove your birth date, social security number or other sensitive personal information from a document, the information is still there in the background. Microsoft provides a free tool that you can use to strip the hidden data from Microsoft Office files and make sure that it doesn't come back to bite you. Check out my Quick Tip: Removing Hidden Data for details on how to obtain and use this tool.
