August 2006 Microsoft Security Bulletins

Monday August 14, 2006
It was another windfall month in the Microsoft Security Bulletin department. Our friends from Redmond released 12 new Security Bulletins for August, 9 of them rated as Critical. One in particular, MS06-040, has many companies and security administrators panicked. Exploiting the flaw could result in an attacker being able to execute code remotely and experts theorize that this vulnerability could be used to create a worm capable of spreading like the Blaster worm. Exploit code already exists in the wild and there are at least two known variants of worms already out that exploit this vulnerability. If you have not already done so, I recommend that you apply the MS06-040 patch immediately. You should also take a look at the details for the rest of these and apply the necessary patches as quickly as possible. August 2006 Microsoft Security Bulletins.
