January Security Bulletins From Microsoft

Wednesday January 10, 2007
A funny thing happened on the way to Patch Tuesday...the number of Security Bulletins got cut in half. The word on the street was to expect 8 Security Bulletins to kick off 2007, but Microsoft only released 4. MS07-001 is rated as Important, while the other three are rated as Critical. The Critical Security Bulletins deal with vulnerabilities in Excel, Outlook and the Vector Markup Language which can be exploited remotely. Oddly, the flaws in Microsoft Word, for which there has been active, zero-day exploit code in the wild since before December's Patch Tuesday Security Bulletins, were still not addressed. For more details and links to download the necessary patches, check out January 2007 Microsoft Security Bulletins.
