Is Your Computer Part Of A Botnet?
Sunday January 28, 2007
If not, then statistically speaking one of your two neighbors or the guy across the street must be. According to a story I saw on Slashdot, Vint Cerf, considered one of the "fathers of the Internet", recently estimated that as many as 150 million of the 600 million computers connected to the Internet have been compromised by a bot of one kind or another. I contributed recently to a new book from Syngress, Botnets: The Killer Web App, which explores bots and botnets in depth. If you just want a simple explanation of bots in a nutshell, you can read What Is A Bot (or Zombie)?

Whether or not botnets actually exists is immateral the only thing, which matters is how can they be detected and the connection be deleted.
I just wanted to comment on the great graphic used with this post - very cute!
In response to Barrington’s comment: an excerpt from What is a Bot (or Zombie)?, which is mentioned in the original post:
“One of the best defenses against threats like these is to run anti-virus and anti-spyware software on your computer. It is important that you update the software frequently though.”
I think it’s important to remember using Anti Virus and Anti spyware software isn’t just for your own purpose but all other internet users. Infected machines on the internet can be used to infect other unprotected machines so it’s important for each and every PC user to have appropriate virus protection.
