Grum Worm Disguised As IE7 Download

Monday April 2, 2007
A worm has been identified which attempts to lure users with an email claiming to link to a download of Internet Explorer 7. The Grum.A worm arrives in an email spoofed to appear as if it is from administrator@microsoft.com, and directing users to click on a link to get a download of Beta 2 of the Internet Explorer 7 web browser. Those who click on the link get infected rather than an IE7 download. Users should be aware that Microsoft, and other legitimate companies, do not send out such unsolicited emails. No matter how legitimate it looks, you should be leery and never click on a link from an email like this. Besides, IE7 has been officially released for some time and downloading Beta 2 would not be an upgrade. For more details, you can read this InformationWeek blurb on Yahoo News.
