6 Critical Security Bulletins From Microsoft

Tuesday August 14, 2007
Today is the day! Patch Tuesday. For August, Microsoft has released a total of 9 Security Bulletins, 6 of which are ranked as Critical and the other 3 are Important. The MS07-046 Security Bulletin is regarded by many as the most urgent of the Critical Security Bulletins. MS07-046 addresses a flaw in the Windows GDI (Graphics Rendering Engine) and affects Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Server 2003. The flaw has the broadest implications and a successful exploit could give an attacker complete control of the vulnerable system. There is also a Security Bulletin (MS07-048) which impacts Windows Vista. It is only ranked as Important, but it relates to a cross-site scripting vulnerability with the Vista Sidebar Gadgets which could be leveraged to allow an attacker to execute malicious code remotely on a vulnerable system. For complete details about all 9 Security Bulletins and the links to download the necessary patches and updates, check out August 2007 Microsoft Security Bulletins.
