September Security Bulletins from Microsoft

Tuesday September 11, 2007
Time flies by. Many organizations and individuals are still wrestling with getting all 9 of the Security Bulletins from last month dealt with, and it is already Patch Tuesday again. The good news is that there are only 4 new Security Bulletins from Microsoft this month and only one of the 4 is rated as Critical. MS07-051 is rated as Critical and addresses a vulnerability in the Microsoft Agent ActiveX control. It is also possible to simply disable the Agent and remove the threat that way as well. The other three are rated as Important, but it should be noted that all three have known exploit code publicly available. None of them are currently being exploited, but the code is out there which makes it a little more urgent. If you are still using a previous version of Windows Messenger or MSN Messenger, be sure to check out MS07-054. And, in the meantime, be very cautious about accepting any video or webcam invitations, as these could be an attempt to exploit this flaw and take control of your computer system. For complete details and links to download the necessary patches, check out September 2007 Microsoft Security Bulletins.
