Using ACL's To Secure Your Network

Thursday October 4, 2007
While it is not a substitute for an actual network firewall, the routers on a network can be configured to act as rudimentary firewalls by using ACL's, or Access Control Lists. ACL's have an additional benefit in that they can be configured to act as a troubleshooting tool as well. If you are tasked with managing a network, you should definitely be familiar with ACL's and understand how to define and implement them. This blog post on TechTarget's ITKnowledgeExchange links to resources to provide more information about what ACL's are and how they work, as well as a web-based video demo if you would prefer a visual demonstration.
