Check Out Windows Live OneCare 2.0

Wednesday January 16, 2008
It wasn't that long ago that Microsoft jumped into the home PC antimalware arena and revolutionized security suite software with Windows Live OneCare. OK, "revolutionized" might be a tad strong. What they did was expand the normal security suite functionality (antivirus, personal firewall, antispyware) into a more holistic approach to PC maintenance which included functions such as disk drive cleanup, defragmentation, and data backup. They also sold the product licensed for 3 PC's so that it could be used to protect a small home network instead of a single PC. Symantec and McAfee both quickly followed suit by adding the holistic functionality and multi-PC licensing to their security suites as well. When Microsoft released Windows Live OneCare 2.0, they improved the product significantly and raised the bar again for the competition. I will review the product here in the near future. For now, you can take a look at Paul Thurrott's write-up. You can try Windows Live OneCare free for 90 days to see how easy caring for your computer can be. Download the free trial.
