Security Certifications

Saturday April 19, 2008
If you are considering a career in information security, a certification is virtually a requirement. That is not to say that I believe those without certifications can't do the job, or that having a certification automatically qualifies you. However, without that "badge of honor", you will never even get in the door for most interviews. The CISSP is probably the most familiar, most respected, and the certification that most employers seek when they want an information security professional. If you want to pursue the CISSP, there is a whole section of this site dedicated to CISSP training resources. I particularly recommend taking a look at My Top 10 Tips For Preparing and Passing the CISSP Exam. There are also some respected entry-level certifications such as Security+, or SSCP. You can refer to the Security Certifications resources on this site for more information, and you can also read the Top Ten Benefits of a Security Certification from About.com Computer Certifications Guide, Dori Ruescher.
