Comcast Site Hacked

Friday May 30, 2008
It has been more than ten years since I have actually used the designated portal site from my Internet service provider (ISP), or the provided email accounts. I want to go to 'public' portal sites like Yahoo or Google or MSN, rather than being directed to the Charter, or Comcast, or Time Warner portal site. I also don't want to have to change my email address and servers every time I switch ISP's, or when my ISP is bought out by another ISP (which seems to happen more often than me switching ISP's on my end). Well, those Comcast users who do rely on the Comcast portal site, or use Comcast's web-based email were surprised on Wednesday to find that the site had been 'pwnd' (hacker-spelling for the 'owned' which is hacker-speak for having your web site taken over). The site was redirected for a few hours, and service was restored Thursday morning. You can learn more from this article at The Register.
