7 Microsoft Security Bulletins; 3 Critical

Tuesday June 10, 2008
Today Microsoft released their Security Bulletins for the month of June. There are 7 total Security Bulletins- 3 are rated as Critical, 3 are rated Important, and 1 is rated Moderate. One of the Critical Security Bulletins is the ever-popular default (say it with me) cumulative update for Internet Explorer. The other two Critical Security Bulletins, MS08-030 and MS08-033, are related to Microsoft's implementation of Bluetooth and DirectX respectively. In both cases, a successful exploit could lead to an attacker being able to execute malicious code remotely on the vulnerable system. The three Important Security Bulletins relate to WINS, Active Directory, and PGM (Pragmatic General Multicast). They are rated lower because rather than remote execution of malicious code, these vulnerabilities only allow an attacker to either elevate their privilges on the vulnerable system, or cause a denial-of-service. The seventh Security Bulletin, rated as Moderate, is cumulative update related to ActiveX kill bits. For more details on this month's Security Bulletins and the links to download the appropriate patches and updates, check out this month's summary: June 2008 Microsoft Security Bulletins.
