Protect Your Personal Data on Your iPhone or iPod Touch

Thursday January 1, 2009
A few weeks back I mentioned an iPhone App called SplashID that can be used to secure and protect personal data on your iPhone or iPod Touch. I have since added a couple other profiles and put together a brief article highlighting the need for such apps.

The mobile phone, especially the iPhone, quickly becomes a lifeline for people. It lets you communicate via voice, email, instant messaging, or text messages. It lets you play games and listen to music. It lets you look up any information you could possibly need via the Web or Google Maps or any of a thousand specialized apps. It also lets you store information and, since it is almost always within arms reach it seems to be a perfectly logical place to keep data like credit card numbers, bank account numbers, account login info like usernames and passwords, birth dates, social security numbers, etc.

It is also quite easily lost or stolen so any such sensitive information has to be encrypted or protected in some way to ensure no unauthorized individuals can access it. For more about SplashID and other helpful iPhone apps to help protect your personal data on your iPhone or iPod Touch, check out Secure Information Storage on iPhone / iPod Touch.
