The 2% Business Model

Friday April 17, 2009
If you were only 2% successful at your job, how long do you think you'd get to keep it? Heck, baseball players with a poor batting average still hit the ball 10% to 20% of the time. NBA basketball players who are poor free throw shooters can still usually make 30% or 40% of the shots even if its on accident. So, '2%' and 'success rate' would seem like an oxymoron to include in the same sentence together.

There are some things though where 2% is not only sufficient- but phenomenal. Spam and phishing are based on a business model that only requires a 2% success rate to make millions. Spam and phishing are big business. They are getting more sophisticated and the lack of 'real' jobs in the current economy may drive many more people to try their hand in this lucrative, albeit illegal, business venture. You need to have the proper protection in place and exercise a healthy dose of common sense to ensure you don't become a victim.
