Ain't nothing like the real thing baby. And, since the real thing is officially released today do yourself a favor and don't fall for any messages claiming to lead to a leaked download of the latest iPhone update.

Apple is releasing the iPhone 3.0 update today which adds copy & paste functionality and some other features to the popular mobile device. Scammers have started a multi-pronged attack involving Twitter, file sharing services, and affiliate marketing schemes capitalizing on the popularity of the iPhone and the excitement about the 3.0 release of the iPhone OS.

itunes still displays that 2.2.1 is the current software version (as of 7:30 am CST on 6/17/09). Does anyone know what time it will be released today?

Their website also says “download 3.0″ and today’s date but there’s no actual button or link to click. A bit misleading really.

the only people who know are specific people who work at apple. for the 2.0 update it came at different times throughout the day. people in the same time zone were getting their updates hours apart.

I’d just wait until this evening, or maybe even tomorrow morning when the traffic dies down. However if you want it as soon as it comes out you have 2 choices. #1 click “Check for Update” every 20 minutes or so. or follow a site like mac rumors which will have some reader who is checking their itunes every minute and posting as soon as it is there. let them do the work for you.

Either way, have fun!

I deleted the most recent comment. Hopefully my readers would be smart enough to NOT click on the link to download the leaked iPhone 3.0 software from a comment on a post about how the leaked iPhone 3.0 software is being used to spread malware and exploit users. BUT- just to be sure, I deleted anyway.

Gotta say- it takes some exceptional ‘chutzpah’ to post such a link as a comment to the blog post telling people not to click on that link. :-P

Funny.

Hmm, contradicting release times… just who are your sources anyway?

I have no source. But, I have seen the 1pm Eastern in more than one spot.

I don’t actually have an iPhone, so I also don’t understand the rush. If it comes out at Noon and you don’t download it until 4:23pm does the Earth fall out of its orbit or something??

:P

I was referring to the other comments.

I never post comments on blogs but yeah, it’s silly waiting in anticipation especially since the picture messaging isn’t yet fully supported by ATT (I don’t think). But if you did own one, you might have a bit more anticipation. :)
