Guide Review - Book Review: Malware

There is no shortage of information security books on the market. The author of Malware: Fighting Malicious Code, Ed Skoudis, is even responsible for a couple of them (Counter Hack and the CD video tutorial The Hack Counter-Hack Training Course). Many of them discuss the effects of malicious code in a cursory manner and may even suggest means for defending against one kind or another. To date though, no single book has so comprehensively discussed the topic of malicious code as Malware does.

This book breaks down malicious code to a level not seen in other books. Skoudis not only describes the various threats and how they work, but more importantly provides tested, real-life solutions to help you secure your systems and protect your networks from being affected by malware. Malware also provides information to help you capture and analyze new malicious code yorself to determine what its intended to do, how it works and how to stop it.

The book is written so that beginners can learn without feeling overwhelmed, but even the most seasoned security administrators and malware defenders will learn a ton and will want to keep this book close by as a resource.

Malicious code is here to stay and its an ever-evolving target. This book is a must read to try and keep up with the changes in malware and protect your PC.
