Hello again. There was a lot of activity on the site this week. One major thing I did was to revamp the way I am doing the Secunia Advisories. Rather than posting each individual alert, I am posting daily summaries of the advisories ranked with a Medium or higher criticality. I wrote an article on port knocking and posted my review of Bruce Schneier's book Beyond Fear as well.

One of the biggest security issues and contributors to the spread of viruses and worms is simply naive or uneducated users. Please feel free to forward this newsletter to your friends and family that you feel might benefit from the information on this site. By no means am I suggesting that you contribute to the deluge of spam, but if you genuinely feel that someone you know might be interested in this site or could use the information in these newsletters feel free to share it with them.

This is just one example of how the perceived risks are often not the same as the reality of the risk. Beyond Fear is an excellent book in helping people to understand risks and what trade-offs are required to protect...Read More
