from Tony Bradley, your Editor and Guide

I have mentioned it in my newsletters, discussed it in the Forums, announced it in the main page links and added it as a Did-You-Know link- and now it has arrived. This Thursday, June 12 is the chat session with George Kurtz and Stuart McClure- 2/3 of the authors of Hacking Exposed-4th Edition. Join us from 8pm to 10pm eastern time.

Last week I had posted an article about Security Through Obscurity. This week I posted an article regarding the controversy around the University of Calgary teaching students how to write viruses (see Virus Writing 101). Will teaching students how to write viruses help them to develop better virus defenses? Or is the college simply helping to create the next generation of malicious code writers? You can also visit the Forums to weigh in with your thoughts and opinions on these topics.

Be sure to check out the Interview with Eric Cole (author of Hiding In Plain Sight). Eric Cole was kind enough to share some of his time to answer questions about how he got into Information Security, his thoughts on the industry and technology now and other items of interest. Also read the review of Hacking Exposed-4th Edition.

Have a great week!

Virus Writing 101
The University of Calgary will be teaching some students how to write viruses. Some of the security community vehemently oppose sharing this knowledge and would prefer to practice security through obscurity when it comes to virus defense.
