from Tony Bradley, your Editor and Guide

I began to re-publish some old articles this week. It is mostly due to some changes in the way About.com is archiving things and I didn't want the articles to get lost in the shuffle. In some cases I have updated them to reflect more recent changes though.

There were a couple more book reviews this week. In the coming week I will be posting a couple other book reviews, a product review of a program for backing up your computer and begin work on a new series of lessons that will be more advanced than the Computer Security 101 series.

Intuit Apologizes for "TurboHacks"
When Intuit released TurboTax last year it held some surprises. The company added product activation that would lock the program to one computer to try to block any casual piracy. Customers were outraged and many switched to competing products. Now Intuit has published an open letter to its customers apologizing for the public relations fiasco and promising not to do the same this year. You can read my article here: Intuit Apologizes for "TurboHacks". Or, you can click here to vote in a poll about this issue, or click here to join in a discussion of the Intuit TurboTax issue in the Forums.

Book Review: Mike Meyers' Certification Passport- Security+
The Mike Meyers' series of certification preparation books are some of the best on the market. This one, by Trevor Kay, will help refresh your memory and draw your focus to key areas that you may need to reinforce to pass the exam. The way the book is written as a sort of "travel guide" and the fact that its a relatively small book make it easy to use. Don't plan on passing the exam with this book alone, but if you have the knowledge and experience to be Security+ certified, this book can definitely help you prepare for the exam.

Book Review: Windows XP Professional Security
Windows XP Professional Security is one of the best-written and comprehensive books I have seen on this subject. Chris Weber and Gary Bahadur have compiled all of the information you need to know to squeeze the most security out of this operating system- touted as the most secure version of Windows yet at its release. Anyone who uses Windows XP Professional or is responsible for administering Windows XP Professional machines should read and apply the information in this book to ensure their systems are secure.
