Intuit created a huge controversy and cause many loyal customers to look for alternatives for completing their 2002 income tax returns when they chose to put product activation and a spyware product to monitor and limit CD recorder drive useage into their TurboTax income tax software product. After the huge backlash, Intuit backed down and to make sure their customers know it they recently took out full page ads in major national newspapers to apologize to their customers.
