Reset Forgotten Passwords

Monday June 19, 2006
If you forget a password for your bank or credit card web site, at least you can call and have it reset (after providing information such as your social security number, blood type, first girl you kissed, etc. to verify your identity). If you forget a password for an application while using your computer, at least you can use tools like those found in Storing and Remembering Passwords Securely to look it up. But, if you forget the password that gets you into your Windows XP system in the first place, you are in trouble. Windows XP does offer you a password hint, but if the hint doesn't help you, then what? You can reset a forgotten password using the Administrator account. Follow the instructions in this step-by-step guide.
