Microsoft "Feature" May Be Vulnerability

Monday July 10, 2006
Many of the features that make using an application or operating system more convenient also represent convenient methods for attacks to occur. It was discovered that with Windows XP and Internet Explorer it is possible to execute a program by entering its address path in the address bar of the Web browser. Some claim that this can be a vulnerability, because attackers may be able to use it, or lure unsuspecting users into using it, to execute malware or perform functions that allow an attack to occur. Microsoft stands by the function though and claims that it is a valid feature of Windows XP and Internet Explorer.
