Beware of Holiday Phishing Scams

Monday December 4, 2006
Phishing is a threat 365 days a year, but it seems to increase dramatically during certain times of the year. After the death of someone famous, or after any major world event or catastrophe, you will often see new phishing attacks using the current events as the bait to lure gullible users into falling for the scam. With the holiday season upon us, there is often an increase in phishing attacks trying to capitalize on the overall sense of giving and charity that exists at this time, as well as an increase in phishing attacks aimed at users who rely on eBay, Amazon, Paypal and other major retail and commerce sites to do their holiday shopping. Be wary of any emails asking you to click on a link and use some common sense before replying to any emails you get. Follow the steps in this article to help you identify and avoid phishing attacks. Gone Phishing!
