Extending The Vista Activation Period

Monday March 19, 2007
If you have installed a Microsoft Windows operating system in the last few years, you are familiar with the concept of product activation. Product activation helps the vendor, in this case Microsoft, to ensure that the software being installed is a legally licensed copy. After installing the product, you will continue to receive messages and alerts reminding you that the clock is ticking to activate the product. If you do not activate the product in time, it will cease working until you do so. Some users find product activation to be a tremendous nuisance, particularly when you have to re-activate after upgrading components of your computer system (see Transfer Windows XP Activation). According to this article in Network World, Microsoft Windows expert Brian Livingston has discovered that it is possible to extend the activation period beyond the stated 30 days with a single line command. More recently, Livingston announced the discovery of a Registry change which could extend activation for up to a year or possibly even indefinitely. For more details, read How to run Vista legally without activation for a year.

I have read some comments about Vista. I read that old programs would not run on Vista. So far, I can see no reason to purchase this product. The cose is just too high for the average user.

I read an article about activation probably last year.

A senior Microsoft’s (MS) person claimed (in an article last year, think it was) that there weren’t any problems with activating MS products, which was and still is false.

I have genuine MS products:-
1) Windows XP supplied free and fitted by the UK’s Escalation Team - long story.
2) Office XP (2002) with Publisher 2002 supplied by MS Germany to me in the United Kingdom (England)- paid for postage and packing only - another long story.
3) Open software - click on help -verifies that software has been activated.

But, I still have MS Activation useless sofware with a ‘bug’ (programming mistake) claiming that software isn’t genuine.

Microsoft should remember that action speaks louder than words - boasting that their staff are excellent whilst too many are incompetent. Their Customer After Sales is probably a rip-off, besides useless also at least in the UK.

Seagate’s aftercare sofar appears to be much better than Microsoft’s after care.
